In 1994, Dutch newspaper ’de Volkskrant’ reports about a Ukraine chemical company paying thousands of their
employees with a monthly salary of 400 tubes of toothpaste. The former chemical combine is insolvent, and toothpaste
is one of the firm’s products. Workers go home with two boxes of toothpaste. However, the abstract process of
exchange trade isn’t as easily reversed as that. Within seconds, demand in Kiev is sated. The workers have to travel to
other towns in order to transform toothpaste into rent and food. After 16 hrs on the train, one worker said:  One ought
to shoot all those government figures . The rage of the people is as great as their impotence in dealing with state
insolvency, inflation and corruption. The newspaper article has been enhanced with a tube of toothpaste. Its shadow
reveals part of a pistol.
