statistics in 3D
7 screen prints, 4 objects, 1996
this series, in total or in parts, was shown at Galerie 7514 BK, Enschede, 1996; Complex 7, Den Haag, 1997; Kunsthaus Essen, 1998; TZR-Galerie, Bochum, 1999
Statistics appear to be depicting neutral and objective data. The origin of data material can not be deduced from statistics. The perspective, motivation and scales of whoever produces quantitative data are non-transparent. These factors imply complex manipulation, even prior to data becoming, for example, the public base of political decisions. The artificial objectivity is amplified by the visualisation of data as creations of monumental statics. In this series, statistical graphics from The Financial Times were statically manipulated and used as blueprints. The data material remained unchanged.
